2010 marked the first year of the Branson Ironman 70.3. It was a huge success, and will be returning in September of 2011 and 2012 for sure, and hopefully for many years in the future. It brought professional competitors, amateur enthusiasts, families, specatators and lots of fun to our lovely Ozarks community.
If you aren't familiar with Ironman 70.3, it is a "half triathalon." Participants begin with a swim of 1.2 miles. The swim course begins and ends at Moonshine Beach on Table Rock Lake.

From there, the contestants grab their bikes and gear for the 56 mile bike portion of the race. By all accounts, this was an especially difficult course in 2010, as we have lots of hills here in the Branson area. The course features a truly scenic stretch on the Ozark Mountain Highroad, and finishes at the Branson Landing.

All this leads up to the final leg of the 70.3 mile test of strength, endurance, and human will: a half marathon, a 13.1 mile run to the finish. The entire run is in downtown Branson, begining and ending at the Branson Landing.

If that all sounds like more than you could endure, then don't fret. There's plenty of need for volunteers to help with running the event. It's a great event for Branson to be involved with. Check out www.ironmanbranson.com for more information. Or there's also a great facebook page dedicated to the event. So, mark your calendar for September 18, 2011, and let's all enjoy this wonderful event!
