Battle of Springfield | Ozarks Civil War Info
Pointe Royale Properties, Inc.
This will be a short post. I promise. But I think it's worthwhile.
Today, January 8, is the 148th anniversary of the Battle of Springfield, fought this day in 1863. (Not to be confused with the Battle of Wilson's Creek, fought 1 1/2 years earlier.) There is a great deal of Civil War history in Southwest Missouri. The Battle of Springfield was fought, literally, in the streets of Springfield, Mo. There were also significant battles in Carthage, Hartville, and other Southwest Missouri towns, as well as Northwest Arkansas towns.
The Springfield News Leader had a great feature about the Battle of Springfied in today's paper. And I wanted to offer that link up for you. Also, you can check out http://www.ozarkscivilwar.org/ for lots of information on the Civil War in the Ozarks, how it was fought, and the toll it took on this region.

(update 1/15/11)
Ozarks Public Television will be airing a documentary about the Civil War in an Ozarks town, "Civil War: Battle of Newtonia" on February 24th.
